| This collaborative ministry continues to grow locally and nationally. Josephine presented a workshop at the 1998 National Conference of Lutheran Services in America. We are continually in the process of assisting local congregations and other long term care organizations in the development of Care Team Ministry programs. Care Team Ministry responds, free of charge, to the non-medical quality of life needs of individuals not routinely provided by existing social service programs. Care teams, staffed by volunteers from area churches, provide respite care for overburdened home care givers, socialization for frail elderly, and individualized support for anyone with special needs. The program has a very simple structure. Josephine Sunset Home develops partnerships with area churches, developing a network of congregational teams. Each team is led by a lay team leader and supported by the churchs pastor. The team leader breaks the congregational team down into a network of smaller mini-teams. Each mini-team is then commissioned to care for one family or person in need. The mini-team is supported by the congregational team and the congregational team is supported by Josephine. Members, through Josephine Sunset Home, receive the benefits of a thorough orientation, and client specific training dealing with topics such as Alzheimers disease, stroke, aging, grief, and loss. Anyone can do it. The simple structure makes it easy to get involved and easy to stay involved. Because the ministry responds to individuals through a team effort, there is less burden to the individual caregiver and greater security to those being served. Care Teams Provide
I cant imagine doing it on my own. I think that the team concept is extremely supportive. - Kay Stendal, Care Team Member What will be required Antwerp HotelsCare team members make a weekly commitment to calling, visiting, writing, or performing other activities within their comfort level. Each month, care team members meet to review their caring ministries. Through these team meetings, members provide each other with peer review and support. Im doing what Im supposed to be doing . . . what I believe in. - Merle Bjerkness, Care Team Member
