A question and answer session with head coach Glenn Spencer Interview 2, September 11, 2000 WGBraves.com: cheap hotels in MunichHi Coach Spencer, you have to be feeling pretty good following your first two games of the season?alloggi scontati ManilaERROR MSGCoach Glenn Spencer: You always want to start the season off with good execution and emotion, but most of all, wins. The confidence of the entire team is good and all of our goals are in reach. WGBraves.com: The domination over Presbyterian wasn't easy. They have a great football team. How did your team come out and play so well against them? Coach Glenn Spencer: I would be careful in using the word domination. There were many errors we made in that ball game that can cost us in the future if we don't correct them. The execution was good and our play makers made plays. I was very proud of our coaching staff and the preparation job they did with the team. The players win games though, and our front line on both sides of the ball played well. WGBraves.com: Your team had five turnovers in that game and still dominated beyond control. What did you do the following week to help address the turnover problem? Coach Glenn Spencer: Again, to say we dominated is not a fair assessment. Ball security was a problem we tried to address in camp and it was disappointing to turn the ball over so many times in the opening game. As coaches, we have to continue to stress good fundamentals in securing the football. The players have to ultimately take a lot of pride in such an important aspect in winning and losing the games. The following week against Albany State we lost one fumble on a very sloppy and wet field. I am proud of that, but as you see it is a week by week goal and point of emphasis. WGBraves.com: What about Andre Heard? What a pleasant surprise with the exit of Roscoe Pounds. He had a great game against Presbyterian including a 90 yard TD reception. Coach Glenn Spencer: We knew Andre had big play potential. Andre finished the plays, but Jeremy threw well and the offensive line protected well the entire night. All of our individual achievements are the result of unselfish play by the team. Andre will hopefully be the benefactor of many more of those unselfish teammates this season! WGBraves.com: Jeremy Clements also had a fantastic day against Presbyterian? Coach Glenn Spencer: Jeremy expects those kind of performances of himself. He has more importantly become a great leader for the offensive unit. WGBraves.com: When looking back, I guess the entire team had a fantastic game (against Presbyterian)? Coach Glenn Spencer: The Presbyterian game was good, but is now over and the sooner we forget about it the better. WGBraves.com: Albany State had a pretty good defense didn't they? Coach Glenn Spencer: Albany State is a very talented, but young team. I am not looking forward to what they will bring to the table over the next three years that we play them. WGBraves.com: Despite a week of lower numbers / statistics, wouldn't you say that your offense still did the job required? Coach Glenn Spencer: Offensively, we were not nearly as mentally sharp or physically aggressive as we need to be. We will address some of those issues in practice this week. I am very pleased with what we did with the turnovers we got from them, and the lack of turnovers by us and major mistakes that could have gotten Albany back in the ball game. WGBraves.com: What can you say about the performance of your defense against Albany State? Coach Glenn Spencer: Anytime you hold someone to 0 points you have to be very pleased. We had some great pass rush and stopped them at crucial times. We also need to realize we gave up some plays which we will need to perform better on the rest of the season. We did not get ourselves off the field nearly enough the second half and as a result, we were winded in the end of the game. That is what we practice so hard for during the week. It is very gratifying, but is also over now. We can enjoy those things more at the end of the season. WGBraves.com: What can you say about Henderson State as you prepare to face them at home? Coach Glenn Spencer: Henderson may be one of the most improved teams in the conference. They have over 21 transfers on their roster, which means their talent level is enormously better than last year. Conference play usually brings out the best in all of us. Our goals of winning the conference and winning in the playoffs are being tested this weekend. WGBraves.com: Keep up the good work and continue to keep your players focused week to week! Thanks again for your time and we will be back in touch!
