A familiar voice will again call the Braves' action on radio during the 2000 season. Mitch Gray is back for his 19th season as the "Voice of the Braves". It is a tenure second only to Georgia's Larry Munson as the longest of any college football broadcaster in the state of Georgia. He also has handled play-by-play duties for the Braves' basketball broadcasts since 1982. Gray's first season behind the microphone for West Georgia Football was the Division III title season of 1982. He has remained with the Braves ever since, calling games throughout the tough years of the 1980's and through the program's rise to prominence in the 1990's. The veteran broadcaster has received many awards throughout his career. He has received four "Best Play-By-Play" awards from the Associated Press and United Press International, and has earned three "Best Sportscast" honors from the same organizations. Beyond his broadcast duties, Gray serves the UWG Atheletic Program as Director of Sports Information. His publications have received many national honors, including the 1996 Football Media Guide, which was voted best in the nation in Division II.
